IoT solutions often involve complex networks of stakeholders, including operators, developers, clients, investors, and even contractors. Since these parties are involved in the solution to varying degrees, not all of them require a user account with access to the process itself—some only need to be notified of specific events and outcomes.

With this latter group in mind, the Address Book module is designed to create contacts who can be notified about the operation and its day-to-day events by storing their contact details. Contacts can later be associated with events to be easily kept up to date. Unlike regular Ubidots users, Address Book contacts don’t have access to the platform, as they do not have login credentials.

Another benefit of contacts is that they simplify event management. In case the contact information of a relevant party changes, you don't have to edit events one by one, just changing the contact information will be enough.

Requirements

1. How to Create Contacts

To add contacts to your address book, follow these simple steps:

  1. Apps ⟶ Users ⟶ Address Book.

  2. Click on the “+” button located at the upper right corner of the module.

  3. Type the name of the contact.

  4. Optionally, tag the contact.

  5. By using the “+ add contact method” button, select one or all of the available methods and fill in the contact information. Available options are email, SMS, and voice.

  6. Once you’re done, click on the “save” button.

With the contacts now in the address book, you can easily set up events to notify them of anything related to your operation using the Notify User event action.

You can edit or delete any contact using the button that’s to the right of every contact (the three dots).
